Interview with our Warmaster - Teddy Woody

This evening I have an interview with Teddy Woody who won the highly coveted Warmaster award this year taking the top spot as our Best General. There was a lot of great players this year and I watched as they knocked each other out of contention. The second day was very intense as each of the three final rounds passed by one slowly after another. I had thought Teddy was done on the first day after losing an extremely close match in the second round to another Necron player. As fate would have it Lady Luck decided to smile upon Teddy when the one last undefeated player lost in the last round. Teddy won Best General by the slimmest possible margin of a single bonus point... It was just that close.

I met Teddy several years ago when he came down from Georgia to play in a tournament I helped run in Sarasota, Florida. He is a very easy going guy and seems to get along well with everyone. Maybe one day he will figure out my last name is Turner... heh !!

So let's go ahead and get started now that the introduction is over.

___________________________________________________________________
Q1. My first question is what is your intent with the dark eldar army you won? I know some told me they were planning to sell it if they won it. Will you actually play any games with the army?

A1. I’m going to keep the Dark Eldar army, even though many other players would have sold it immediately. It’s a trophy, it not meant to be sold, its meant to be displayed, and played. I did play a game this week with my new Dark Eldar, had fun with it.

___________________________________________________________________
Q2. How did you go about developing your winning Necron army list? Did you have time to do a lot of playtesting?

A2. The developing of the army was basically watching and learning from other players’ mistakes. Nova was the best place for me to learn, a lot of Nercon’s players were bringing too many flyers on the board able to control the sky, but no troops on the ground. So, I needed to bring a balanced list, which was able to control the sky and the ground. The MVP of my list was Immotekh. His ability to control the night fight was a key element, and kept my units to survive and deny my opponents from shooting at me. To tell you the truth I didn’t play test this army at all.

___________________________________________________________________
Q3. What types of armies besides other Necron lists had you most worried? Did you face any of them and if so how did you go about beating them?

A3. I feared drop pod Sternguards….., but no one was playing them. The other army at the tournament I feared was blob squads of Orks, or even IG. I would have to focus all of my fire power into those units that could have up to 30 men per squad. The odd thing is that I didn’t play against any these type of army….I guess I was lucky.

___________________________________________________________________
Q4. I know there was a little bit of discontent from a few that the award did not go to an undefeated player - Other top players eventually knocked each other out of contention over the course of the final two games. How do you feel about winning the Warmaster award with a 5W-1L record and what were your thoughts on day 2 to stay focused on the top prize?

A4. Well, if you did the math at the beginning of tournament there could have been a 5-1 winner, due to the odd number. I believe that happen at Feast of Blades last year. I ask the TO, what was the battle points were going to use for. Got my answer… tie breakers [and Swiss pairings]. Going into the second day with a loss, I knew that I had to be on top of my game. This is year has been great for me as a 40k player. Able to get Best General in WarGamesCon in the RTT and then winning my first GT, that the achievement that every 40k players wants. This win was the icing on the cake.

___________________________________________________________________
Q5. Tell us about your second game versus the Necron player. Looking back now is there anything you could have done differently to have won that game?

A5. The player name was Kai and I tip my hat to him, he was the only player that was able to defeat me in the tournament. Would I have things differently? Why yes, I would have played with more reserve, rather than aggressively. Kai played a great game, it came to one objective, shot everything and there were only two troops left. I would have won if was able to wipeout his unit, but I didn’t. So at the end we have to go to third tie breaker, 9-7 close game, Kai wins.
___________________________________________________________________

Q6. Who was your favorite opponent? Please tell us why.

A6. My favorite opponent was on the last day, last game Necrons Vs. Necrons, Scott Hutchens. Scott looks at my list and stated “I played this army already.” He did, the other Necron player that placed third had a similar list….and he was only one that defeated him. It was like Scott knew what the outcome was going to be, before the game started. We both had Immotekh and laughed to see how long can we keep the night fight going and who would strike with Immotekh 's Lighting. I also stated that we should hire someone to play with the light switch…. just for the effect of night fight. It was a great game even though it was one sided. Scott - it was a great game, had a really great time.

__________________________________________________________________

Q7. How did you like the overall system and rules this year? Do you have any suggestions for improvement?

A7. I like the rule that there was auto turn 6, this was key to my victory. The backup system, if we didn’t have an even number of players to get an undefeated player at the end of the tournament. I hope that next year, we will have a top player’s bracket, for players that do go undefeated in the first day and silver bracket for other players. Each bracket will have a prize, and you will have a true Warmaster at the end of day two.

___________________________________________________________________

Q8. Feel free now to discuss anything you wish that I haven't covered above.

A8. Now there has been discussion on Dakka... Hulksmash and BloodofKitten about loaded dices. Look I don’t like drama and I’m too old for that shit. In any GT level tournament, you’re going to have players that are either asshole, rules lawyers, cheats, or just rage quit. I could talk about it, but I won’t. Steve Tuner and Matt ran a great tournament and I will attend BeakyCon3. This was my 4th tournament which Steve Tuner has hosted, never had a single problem from either TOs or from any players. I’m glad to see a GT here in the south. Y’alls did a great job, keep up with the great work and see y’alls next year.

This is BlackSunShine saying “Scouts Out'.

BeakyCon2 Final Report

Another year has gone by and the results are finally in again...

Warmaster - Teddy Woody, Necrons (Best General)
Emperor's Champion - Alex Simon, Grey Knights w. Imperial Guard allies (2nd Best General)
Honorable Mention - Remy Colins, Necrons (3rd Best General)
Player's Choice - Gabe Dobkins, Blood Angels
Best Army - Scott Hutchens, Necrons w. Chaos Space Marine allies

The Grand Tournament was held again at the Marriott in the Tampa international airport here in sunny Florida. Some flew into the airport and never had to step outside which I think is pretty cool. We had 64 players originally signed up with six rounds over the course of two days (three rounds per day) but had a couple drop right before the weekend. As fate would have it there was one undefeated player going into the final round but he lost his last game so we ended up with six players accumulating 5W-1L records. Bonus points were used to determine the final ranking (total aggregate of kill points, objectives held, First Blood, Slay the Warlord and Line Breaker summed from all six rounds).

Next year we are planning to increase the player base up to 96 with two final brackets to ensure we end up with one undefeated player. It's ironic how it ended as so often there is a lot of heated debate on the Internet regarding whether a pure win-loss system or margin of victory (MoV) is the better system to determine who is actually the best general. We had planned on using total bonus points as a tie breaker to cover the case of such a contingency so in the end everything worked out quite smoothly. The irony is that it turned MoV was used to determine the top player... Advocates of MoV so often claim that this system allows any player to lose one game while still having a shot at grabbing the top spot which turned out to be the case.

It's obvious from the results that Necron flyer spam is one of the top (if not the top) armies in the current meta. Necron flyer based armies are highly mobile and can pour out a lot of high strength (S7+) fire power. They also have excellent dedicated melee units in the form of Canoptek Wraiths and Scarabs coupled with either Overlords or Destroyer Lords sweeping through the field. The two Necron armies that finished in the top three to eventually climb their way back to the top both featured lots of flyers and obviously racked up lots and lots of bonus points. Also note that the top Necron army suffered its one loss to another Necron flyer based army and that game came down to a very close hard fought tie breaker on the tertiary win condition.

There was only one Grey Knight army in the top three (taking second best general) and it was quite an interesting list featuring lots of Grey Knight fire power coupled with Imperial Guard as its ally. Note that this army did not feature any flyers. This player suffered its one loss to one of our youngest players (John Lennon) fielding Tyranids which eventually ended up knocking the Grey Knight player out of contention for the top spot which was also quite ironic in its own way.

There were some other exotic lists such as Marc Parker's ork horde army which did quite well along the way until finally losing to the same Tyranid player mentioned above. Another army I think worth mentioning that did well was Kenny Boucher's (Next Level Painting) daemon army that only had one one flying monstrous creature (Fateweaver of course) and lots of Flamers and Screamers. This army also did quite well until finally losing to the Grey Knight army mentioned above.

Top 2 Army Lists
Here are the top two army lists:

Necrons (1994)
Imotekh the Stormlord
Harbinger of Eternity - Chronometron
7x Warrior - Nightscythe
7x Warrior - Nightscythe
7x Warrior - Nightscythe
6x Warrior - Nightscythe
Doomscythe
6x Canoptek Wraith - 3x Whip Coil
6x Canoptek Wraith - 3x Whip Coil
3x Canoptek Scarab
3x Canoptek Spyder - Gloom Prism
3x Canoptek Spyder - Gloom Prism

Note - I played a pick up game during the Friday evening preceding the GT versus this army with the professionally painted dark eldar army (by Next Level Painting) we gave away as the top prize playing an objective based mission and was crushed. It really brought home to me just how powerful are Necron flyer based armies as I could do nothing but play run and hide most of the game while the Stormlord's lighting continued to rock my puny xenos world over the course of the majority of the game. I was playing a fun raider based army with two Voidravens, Reaver jetbikes plus Vect and Drazhar leading a small squad of Incubi mounted in a Venom. Necrons in general are very resilient and their flyers can easily match the speed of dark eldar... It proved to be too tough of a match up for my dark eldar and I don't think I would fared any better in a kill point or table quarters based mission. Drazhar and his Incubi did manage to shred one squad of Canoptek Wraiths (in melee obviously) - that was the one highlight of the game for me. Oh well you can't win 'em all. I'm happy to see the dark eldar go to someone who will enjoy playing the army. I'd be hard pressed to think of any major event that handed out a better prize - this one came with two carrying cases from Sabol along with the codex. : )

Grey Knights Allied Imperial Guard Fusion (1999)
- Primary Detachment -
Coteaz
4x Jokaero - Chimera w/Searchlight
3x Acolyte Henchmen - 2x plasmagun - Chimera w. Searchlight
10x Grey Knight - 2x Psycannons, Daemonhammer - Psyback
Vindicare Assassin
Psyfleman
Psyfleman
Nemesis Dreadknight - Heavy Incinerator

- Allies -
Company Command Squad - 3x plasmagun, Officer of the Fleet - Chimera
Infantry Platoon:
- Platoon Command
- 2x Infantry Squad (naked)
- 4x Heavy Weapon Squads -3x auto cannons each
Manticore

This was another interesting army as well and generates lots of fire power. I didn't get to watch its demise to the Hive Mind and I'm sure that must have been a very intense game. So there you have it... Another year has gone by and I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Illegal Army Lists

We have discovered that a few of the lists we have received are illegal (e.g., 2000 points, unreadable files, etc.). You will be contacted this evening via email and have until Thursday to resubmit a legal list (e.g., 1999 points or less, no illegal wargear, etc.). Your army list will also be rechecked during registration for correctness. Note we don't want to see resubmitted lists that have been completely redesigned - just fix what's wrong. Thanks.

Resubmitting your army list

Today is the last day you can resubmit your army list if you would like to make any modifications. We will not accept any army lists after today.

Army Counts & more rules questions

Here is the rough count for armies that will be present -

Blood Angels - 3
Chaos Daemons - 6
Chaos Space Marines - 4
Dark Angels - 3
Dark Eldar - 2
Eldar - 2
Grey Knights - 12
Imperial Guard - 4
Necrons - 10
Orks - 2
Sisters of Battle - 2
Space Marines - 4
Space Wolves - 4
Tau - 2
Tyranids - 3

So the two big armies will be Grey Knights and Necrons - no surprise there. By the odds you can count on facing either Grey Knights or Necrons one third of your games. The third highest concentration is Chaos Daemons... Seems like they are seeing a bit of a resurgence again.

More notes on rules questions:

- If a Nightscythe is destroyed then its occupants are put back in reserve and do not suffer from the Crash & Burn rule.

- The Doomscythe death ray does not have to draw LoS to enemy units and the first point can be placed anywhere within 12" of the gun mount.

Random Spot Checks:
Note that the TOs may perform random spots for army list verification. If you are selected during a game the TOs will check your army you are playing versus your actual army list.

That's all for now.

Update

The FAQs were released today for the rule book as well as all the codices. You can resubmit your army list once on September 14. Do not resubmit prior or you may lose the opportunity.

We will always go with the most recent GW ruling - this is in regards to the many FAQs released today.

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Update

I have heard that the latest release of Army Builder includes the option to take flak missiles for some units. Unless there is official documentation from GW to support this our ruling is no flakk missiles - so we would either have to see this supported in a GW codex, FAQ or Errata. Note that White Dwarf battle reports don't count.

In regards to any unit that has a dedicated transport that must start in reserve (e.g., drop pod) - neither the unit nor the transport counts towards the number of units that must start the game deployed on the table. You must have at least one unit that starts on the table (with the exception of Chaos Daemons) or else it is an automatic loss - note that an automatic loss due to being tabled occurs at the end of a game cycle (not turn).

Flying monstrous creatures count as gliding once they fail a grounding test for the rest of that turn. If an FMC is in glide mode it does not have to take any grounding tests.

Two of the top prizes we will be giving away are Battlefoam gift vouchers for up to $250 each.

Finally we cannot except any more orders for Beaky dice as the final order was placed some time ago.

Calculating Victory Points

GW no longer uses victory points in 6th edition so there aren't any references in the new rulebook. Victory points are scored based upon the points cost for each unit as appropriate.

Victory points are always calculated at the end of the game.

CONTROLLING TABLE QUARTERS
These are your victory points per table quarter you score for your scoring and denial units.

•Units of One (e.g., Mephiston), Independent Characters and Monstrous Creatures
If your unit loses one half or more than its starting wounds by the end of the game it counts as one half victory points, otherwise if it's above it counts as full victory points. For the case of a squad of monstrous creatures or characters (e.g., Carnifexen or Paladins) this is applied to the squad on a per model basis.

•Infantry, Bikes, Beasts and Calvary
If your infantry unit is above half strength it counts as full victory points, otherwise it counts as one half victory points unless it's destroyed.

•Emplaced Guns, Fortifications and Vehicles
These can never score nor deny.

Any unit that is destroyed, broken, fleeing or not on the table at the end of the game does not count for victory points.

SECOND TIE BREAKER
These are the victory points you score for destroying enemy units. Destroyed enemy units always count as full victory points including Lone Wolves.

•Units of One (e.g., Castellan Crowe), Independent Characters and Monstrous Creatures
If the enemy unit loses one half or more than its starting number of wounds by the end of the game it counts as one half victory points. For the case of a squad of monstrous creatures or characters (e.g., Carnifexen or Paladins) this is applied to the squad on a per model basis.

•Infantry, Bikes, Beasts and Calvary
If an infantry unit is at one half their starting size or below they count as one half victory points.

•Vehicles
If a vehicle loses half or more than its starting number of hull points then it counts as one half victory points. This is also applied to vehicle squadrons on a per vehicle basis.

•Emplaced Guns and Fortifications
If an enemy Bastion is destroyed it counts as full victory points. If you control your opponent's Aegis Defense line (and emplaced weapon as appropriate) with a scoring or denial unit it counts as full victory points. You must be within 3" or less of either with no contesting enemy units in contesting range to claim these victory points.

Any enemy unit that is not on the table, broken or fleeing at the end of the game counts for full victory points.

Sample Missions

This week we will release two sample missions so you can start playtesing your armies for the GT. The format will be as follows:

Terrain
Terrain will be preplaced.

Primary Win Condition - Objectives, Table Quarters or Killpoints

Objectives will be preplaced as per the mission rules. There will be three, four or five per mission with each worth three battle points.

Table Quarters - To hold a table quarter at the end of a game you must have the most victory points worth of scoring or denial units. These units must be completely inside a table quarter and disembarked.

Killpoints - Whoever scores the most killpoints wins the mission... Just like 40k5.

First Tie Breaker - If there is a draw on the primary win condition then the first tie breaker is killpoints. If the primary win condition is killpoints then the first tie breaker is table quarters (see above).

Second Tie Breaker - If there is a draw on both the primary win condition and first tie breaker then the second tie breaker is pure victory points.

Bonus Battle Points
The following bonuses are in play each mission:

— First Blood
— Slay the Warlord
— Line Breaker
— Killpoints

Mission Rules
The following rules are in effect each game:

— Night Fight
— Deep Strike
— Infiltrate/Outflank
— Seize the Initiative
— Warlord Trait

Order of Sequence
00. Objective markers (if appropriate) are preplaced as per the specific mission rules. Game begins.
01. Roll off to choose deployment zones.
02. Deploy fortifications.
03. Roll for Warlord Traits.
04. Roll for Psychic Lores.
05. Roll for army specific rules (e.g., Grey Knights' Grand Strategy, Dark Eldar Wyche Drugs, etc.)
06. Roll off to see who deploys first (player who deploys first goes first unless their opponent seizes the initiative - see step 10).
07. Deploy armies.
08. Deploy infiltrating units and make scout moves (as per rulebook).
09. Redeploy (e.g., Necron C'Tan Grand Illusion).
10. Roll for Seize the Initiative.
11. First turn begins...
12. Game ends - Note that random game length is modified. There are six turns and then a possible seventh turn on a roll of 4+ on 1d6. Dice Down when time is called - the game immediately stops.

Scoring
At the end of each game there will be one winner and one loser per table. Record the final results as follows at the end of each game:

— Primary Win Condition - Y/N
— Secondary Win Condition (if appropriate) - Y/N
— Tertiary Win Condition (if appropriate) - Y/N
— Battle Points =
•3 per objective marker
•3 per table quarter (if appropriate)
•1 per enemy unit destroyed (killpoints)
•1 per bonus (1st Blood, Slay the Warlord, Line Breaker)

Pairings
The first round is random and after that we will use Swiss pairings which will be affected by your Margin of Win which includes your total accumulated battle points.

That's it ! Two sample missions will be posted later this week. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Mission Rules & Scoring System Complete

Hello everyone !!

Before you know it we will be rolling dice again in Tampa. This year is the first for 6th edition and you will be playing in one of the first national GTs to usher in the new edition. Of course this means there will be some changes from last year as we want to embrace the new rules.

I want to let everyone know that your army lists are due by September 1st. We prefer to have you send them to us in the Army Builder format. If you don't have Army Builder that's okay - send us a text file instead - everything should be clearly spelled out with a full breakdown including points, options and wargear for each and every unit. Remember that this year the total points value per army is 1999 points. No Forgeworld this year.

You should email your army list to me at moodhoney@yahoo.com. Make sure to include your name !

We will be publishing a complete set of rules for the GT in August so keep an eye out. Note also that we have decided to include Warlord Traits now for the missions.

We have been plugging away playing plenty of 40k6 games to work out what we think will provide for a competitive tournament and be within the brand new spirit of 6th edition. We won't be using everything from the new rule book though due to the desire to cut down on the overall complexity/randomness and keep the time required to play at least five turns per game at a reasonable length.

So here we go (note there are some important changes)...

— Most of the missions will feature holding objective markers as the primary objective. Each objective marker is worth 3 battle points. The number of objective markers per mission can vary from three to five. Placing the objective markers will be pre-determined and laid out in the rules for each mission.

— Each enemy unit you destroy or is broken and falling back at the end of the game is worth 1 battle point.

— Bonus battle points are awarded as follows (1 battle point each):
• First Blood
• Slay the Warlord
• Linebreaker

If at the end of a game both players are tied on objective markers then the first tie breaker is determined by total battle points.

If at the end of a game both players are also tied on battle points then the second tie breaker is decided by pure victory points.

— Deployment zones will be chosen from the rulebook.

— Terrain will be preplaced on all tables by the TOs.

— Night Fight as per the new rulebook is in.

— Allies are in.

— Double FOC is out.

— New psychic powers are in.

— Special/mysterious terrain effects are out.

— You can take a fortification except for the Fortress of Redemption and Skyshield Landing Pad (due to their large size).

— Warlord traits are in.

— Mysterious objective effects are out.

— Random game length is in but modified as per last year-> six turns then a seventh final turn on a roll of 4+ on 1d6.

— Seize the Initiative is in.

Each round is 2.5 hours long. The TOs will announce when there is one hour left per round, 1/2 hour left per round and 15 minutes left round. Do not start another turn if you don't think both players can finish their turn. We highly encourage everyone to play at least five turns per round and will monitor players for slow play (refer to the corresponding note below). Dice down immediately when time is called!

The first round will have random pairings, after that Swiss style pairings will be used for the rest of the remaining rounds. At the end of the sixth round there will be one undefeated player who will be crowned the Warmaster (best general). The player with the second best record will be crowned the Emperor's Champion (2nd best general). There will be an award for Best Army (appearance and theme - chosen by the TOs) and an award for Players' Choice.

Each game you will record how many turns you played. If a player is found to have only played four turns or less over the course of several games they may have points deducted from their final total battle points score. You will also be required to mark down if you enjoyed your game along with answering some pertinent questions such as "Was your opponent at the table prior to the start of the game?" So good sportsmanship is very important as always - Don't be that person no one enjoys playing!

All armies must be painted (three color minimum plus flocked bases). If you bring an army that isn't fully painted you'll have some points deducted from from your final total battle points.

WYSIWYG is required for every model in your army.

Counts As... Don't bring dark eldar and plan to play them as eldar... Don't bring a Wraithlord and plan to use it as a Talos. Your opponents should be able to easily recognize what every model in your army counts as.

We will use only GW official material for rules - rulebook, codices and FAQs/Errata. A codex must be released to the public for at least one month ahead of the event.

BeakyCon2 - We want you !!!

Hi everyone !! As of this weekend we are two thirds full with less than 20 slots left to fill. We would love to have a full house with 64 players. Last year BeakyCon went off without a hitch and lots of people told us they had a fantastic time. There will be even more prize support this year including the professionally painted dark eldar army by Next Level Painting including two carrying cases from Sabol. Next year we would love to grow the event to 128 slots and add some other events such as Warhammer Fantasy. BeakyCon has the potential to become a major event in the southeast - we need your support to make it happen. If you are coming from far away you can fly into the Tampa airport and never have to leave until its time to go home... How awesome is that?

Sixth edition is well underway now and has been well received. The tournament is designed to give everyone a fair chance and be a lot of fun while gaming in a competitive environment. There is still plenty of time to sign up.

Mission Format & Scoring System

We have been plugging away playing plenty of 40k6 games to work out what we think we provide for a competitive tournament and be within the spirit of 6th edition. We won't be using everything though due to the desire to cut down on the overall complexity/randomness and keep the time required to play at least five turns per game at a reasonable length. What I propose here is our first cut and things might change. If you don't like something I want to know why and kindly ask that you explain why you feel the way you do. Constructive feedback will definitely be taken into consideration!

So here we go...

Most of the missions will feature holding objective markers as the primary objective. Each objective marker is worth 3 battle points. The number of objective markers per mission can vary from three to five. Objective markers are placed as per the rules from the 6th edition rulebook.

— Bonus battle points are awarded as follows (1 battle point each):

If at the end of a game both players have an equal number of battle points then the winner is decided by pure victory points (tie breaker).

— Deployment zones will be chosen from the rulebook.

— Terrain will be preplaced on all tables by the TOs.

— Night Fight as per the rulebook is in.

— Allies are in.

BeakyCon 2 & 6th Edition - What is in & What is out

Hi ! Happy 4th of July !!

After a lot of thought and much discussion BeakyCon2 will use the new 6th edition rules:

- 1999 points (no double FOC lists)

- Allies are in

- Fliers are in

- Warlord Traits are out

- Fortification is in...
No Fortress of Redemption though. If you play a non Imperial army you can bring a custom built fortification but it must closely match the dimensions of those from GW such as the Aegis Defense Line... No modeling for a gaming advantage.

- The following rules from the 6th edition rulebook will not be used:
• "mysterious terrain" (p.102)
• "Archotech artefacts" (p 106)
• "unique terrain" (p. 107)

- Each mission will have a primary objective (e.g., control the most objective markers) with two tie breakers (Slay the Warlord, Linebreaker, etc.). The format is still pure W-L with six rounds and one undefeated player. Note that the following rules for missions from the rulebook will not be used:
• "First Blood" victory condition (p. 122)

- Armies must be fully painted (3 color minimum and bases flocked).

If you have any questions or comments then let me know.

BeakyCon • 5th edition versus 6th edition

Hi everyone !

I have been told GW has pulled the 5th edition rulebook off the website and shops have been told to not restock them. It sounds like GW is ready to soon release 6th to the public. I am very curious how people feel about which edition they want to play at the GT this October. We have no idea what is exactly in store for us with the release of the new edition. I know lots of people that say they are bored with the current edition and many others as well who've said they are worried GW is going to screw up the game. I'm personally looking forward to the new edition. Of course there are a lot of logistics to consider... Currently I'm thinking if 6th edition is released by early June there will be enough time to sort everything out by October. I'd love to hear what y'all think. Please let me know.

5th edition vs. 6th edition

No wait this is not another batrep! Shoot everybody knows that 6th edition will curb stomp 5th edition. Hee !!

But seriously folks here is how we currently plan to handle 6th edition:

—If 6th edition is released by the end of July then we will use the new rules. If this should happen then you will have a period of time to change which army you want to bring to the GT. We will need to know by the middle of August which army you've decided to switch over to for the GT.

—If 6th edition is released after July then we will still use the current edition.

New Deployment Rules for BeakyCon 2012

We have decided to introduce new deployment rules this year for both Seize Ground and Capture & Control:

— There are four objective markers for Seize Ground - one is placed in the center of each table quarter, or
— There are three objective markers for Seize Ground - draw a diagonal line from one table corner to the far adjacent table corner - one objective marker is placed at the middle of the table while the other two are equidistant from the center (i.e., 22" on either side of the central marker) - the diagonal line is drawn prior to rolling to choosing deployment zones
— You can place your Capture and Control objective marker anytime during your initial deployment
Capture & Control objective markers must be placed at least 9" from the Seize Ground Objective markers
— All objective markers must be placed on ground level and count as impassible terrain

These new rules have been introduced to keep the missions as competitive as possible and not give one player any advantage over another during deployment... so basically no more bunching up your objective markers.

Remember that the BeakyCon mission features all three objectives from the rulebook - Seize Ground, Capture & Control plus Annihilation. Whoever wins the most objectives wins the game. If there is a draw on objectives then victory points are the tie breaker. This format was invented by my friend Mike Walsh and has been copied by other TOs such as myself (obviously) and the recent Bay Area Open GT held in California.

Registration opens in two weeks ! And remember if you register early you can buy 12 packs of our Beaky dice this year ($20/pack).

New BeakyCon Dice

Players who register early this year can buy these dice at $20 per dozen.

BeakyCon 2012 Announcement

Hi all !!

I have decided to wait until the second week of April to open registration to the general public. The reason being I am on travel all of next week and the week after that... I'll be back then for the better part of April and think that this is for the best - less potential for any hassles.

Registration will be the same as last year via PayPal. We will take the first 64 to register. You have to pick an army and stick with that choice this year so give it some serious thought. We will be collecting army lists two months prior to the event this year. Note that there will be some modifications to the existing mission format such as deployment of objective markers.

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Registration Announcement

Registration will open on March 19. We will take the first 64 entries. There are no refunds after the end of July. This year we will have more terrain, new dice and new objective markers. This year we will also allow players to order dice in sets of twelve.
